Exploring the world’s oceans through an Islamic lens.

This is a combined geography, history and science unit and it covers:

• The world’s 5 oceans

• Ocean zones

• Hadith and ayat specific to the sea

• The spread of Islam through maritime trade routes

• Cyclones, hurricanes and typhoons

• Eating ocean animals

• Ocean pollution

• Coral reefs

• Astrolabe invention

• Introduction to latitude and longitude

• Ocean tides, currents and waves

• Salinity and water density

The unit is over 50 pages and includes a variety of activities from arts and crafts to experiments, comprehension activities and more. Many of the activities in our unit are designed to have the children research information themselves to get them accustomed to learning independently and being inquisitive by asking various questions.
